Secret Pal 8 Questionnaire
1. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with? What fibers do you absolutely *not* like?
I like all types of natural fibers. Right now, I am very excited about sock yarn, especially the handpainted kind. Other brands I’ve eyed were Malabrigo, Rowan, Handpaintedyarn.com, Socks That Rock…I don’t really like novelty yarns like fun fur.
2. What do you use to store your needles/hooks in?
Right now, just in their original cases and thrown in my knitting bag. I am totally disorganized and really need to get the needles organized somehow.
3. How long have you been knitting? Would you consider your skill level to be beginner, intermediate or advanced?
I have been knitting for 7 months, obsessively. Skill level, beginner. Small projects only, as I have a short attention span. I do have a sweater project in mind for the future.
4. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list?
Nope.
5. What’s your favorite scent? (for candles, bath products etc.)
I like fruity scents, especially mango and apple.
6. Do you have a sweet tooth? Favorite candy?
Yes! I like British candy, Aero, Wispa…but anything chocolately and marshmallowey is good, no caramel or peanut butter. Kitkats are an all time favorites though.
7. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do? Do you spin?
I just bought a drop spindle to try to learn how to spin. I want to get into more DIY-activities. I started beading recently but knitting has kept me busy.
8. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (if your buddy wants to make you a CD)
I like indie (Kcrw.com), electronic- downtempo, ambient, IDM (Ulrich Schnauss, Boards of Canada, Boom Bip, DJ Krush, Moby etc_), Hip hop (not mainstream kind, Jurassic 5, Madlib, Talib, Mos Def, Tribe Called Quest, Digable Planets etc). I am open to any type of music really, especially if it’s not mainstream. Jazz, reggae, world, dance…
9. What’s your favorite color? Or–do you have a color family/season/palette you prefer? Any colors you just can’t stand?
Lately my favorite pallete has been greens! The whole blue/green aquamarine color is just yummy. I also like the purples family of color. Knitting has exposed me to all kinds of color. I’m starting to like orange too.
10. What is your family situation? Do you have any pets?
I am single and do not have pets.
11. Do you wear scarves, hats, mittens or ponchos?
I am a big fan of hats…and I’ll wear scarves when it gets cold here in Cali. It’s too hot for mittens and not a huge fan of ponchos but have seen some neat patterns out there. I really like fingerless mittens though.
12. What is/are your favorite item/s to knit?
Hats, (because of a short attention span and it fulfills my instant gratification needs) and socks (developing a love).
13. What are you knitting right now?
I am knitting two socks (jaywalker and basic sock pattern). I am about to start knitting a Fitted Tank (Blue Sky Alpacas Pattern).
14. Do you like to receive handmade gifts?
Love it but any gift is always appreciated.
15. Do you prefer straight or circular needles? Bamboo, aluminum, plastic?
Circular needles and bamboos are my favorites. I have heard all about Addis and one day I shall own one.
16. Do you own a yarn winder and/or swift?
No to both. (Boo me)
17. How did you learn to knit?
I taught myself through pattern and knitting books and via the internet. Sadly, not many people I know knit.
18. How old is your oldest UFO?
A ribbed scarf from December 2005. It was supposed to be a present for my mom but I couldn’t deal with the annoying yarn any longer. (Patons Divine yarn - ugh).
19. What is your favorite holiday?
I like Halloween.
20. Is there anything that you collect?
Cameras (toy cameras-Lomo, Holgas), keychains (from places I’ve traveled), plushies (UglyDolls, Shawnimals etc.) and now, anything knitting related. I haven’t been that obsessive about collecting since I tend to move alot, and am aiming to minimalize. Of course, when it comes to knitting, all bets are off.
21. Any books, yarns, needles or patterns out there you are dying to get your hands on? What knitting magazine subscriptions do you have?
I’ve been eyeing Blue Sky Alpacas Silk and Manos del Uruguay yarns for ages. Recently, been eyeing this yarn from YarnBotanika. http://www.etsy.com/view_item.php?listing_id=177262
Recently started a trial subscription with Interweave Knits. Of course, I’d like a ball winder.
22. Are there any new techniques you’d like to learn?
I’d like to learn how to knit socks, toe-up and on circulars/Magic Loop. I also want to learn how to spin.
23. Are you a sock knitter? What are your foot measurements?
A newbie sock knitter. I wear a size 7US shoe (Size 5UK). Approx 9 inches.
24. When is your birthday? (mm/dd)
March 19th. A pisces.
