Interesting eats.

With visitors in town and family friends around, I haven’t had much time to do anything in terms of knitting. I’ve finally finshed the heel and heel gusset of the Jaywalker sock at least but I am still only on sock numero uno.

But we’ll have to talk about food because I went to a couple cool ones recently. On Tuesday, I went to Real Food Daily in Santa Monica with a friend who’s recently converted to veganism. So this place is perfect. There’s no meats, dairy or eggs in any of their food, and everything is organic. I tried their Ciao Bella sandwich, which was a pricey $9.95 plus $1.75 for avocado. The sandwich was pretty delicious and disgustingly healthy. The contents of the sandwich were roasted portabella mushrooms with onions, roasted red peppers, lettuce, tomato and pesto on toasted hemp bread. I’d never tried hemp bread before. It’s very similar to a rye bread. Very grainy but yummy. On the side, I had an Asian slaw. The restaurant was a nice refreshing change from the typical grease-filled restaurant. The prices were a little much but I guess you pay the price for good food, and it is worth it. Sometimes, I just wonder about being able to duplicate these recipes at home. It’s so doable.

Later that evening, my friend’s finished-last-exam-celebration-from-lawschool was at Thai Palms in Hollywood. No photos yet but we pigged out on seafood thai food. I’m horrible at eating out lately. Even if I’m starving, I barely make a dent in the food. Prolly about quarter of the food before I’m full and wanting to snooze it off. Heh. I feel like it’s such a waste of money. But then, I get hungry again in approximately 3 hours. (Yup, I come with instructions saying to “feed Bee every 3 hours. Not to exceed 5 hours.)

I like beers. But I’m a real fan of dark beers. Yeah, a major beer snob. I never used to like beers at all, as a matter of fact. I like porters especially and any dark lagers. I was at Beverages ‘n More the other day and found a bottle of Samuel Adams Chocolate Bock. Chocolate and beer! Well, actually there isn’t any chocolate in it but I’m sure it’s quite tasty. The bottle cost $15.99 but I just couldn’t justify buying that at the moment. Besides, I need that money for yarn. =) The description of the bock on their website says:

“Samuel Adams® partnered with Scharffen Berger Chocolate to develop their newest innovation, Samuel Adams® Chocolate Bock. Tettnang Tettnanger and Spalt hops were hand-selected from the world’s oldest growing area and combined with a complex selection of malts including two row Pale, Munich and caramel to create a rich and satisfying brew. This dark beer has a big, malty character that is combined with the subtle sweetness of chocolate. The chocolatiers at Scharffen Berger crafted an exclusive blend of chocolate for Samuel Adams® made with cocoa beans from Ghana called forastero. Samuel Adams® Chocolate Bock was aged on a bed of this chocolate to create its unique layers of flavor. As the beer matured, the fruity, tart, earthy and chocolate aromas were infused into the liquid to give the brew a complex, full-bodied taste with a velvety finish. A hint of vanilla was added to meld the symphony of flavors together.”
