Bend it like Beckham

The biggest event in the world is going on for the next month or so. There’s no denying that FOOTBALL is the world’s most popular sport. And no, not American football…football as the rest of the world correctly calls it. ;-P I haven’t been into sports for a while, nothing’s really peaked my interest but the World Cup has been awesome so far. The love and passion for this sport is crazy. I remember growing up around it and while living here in the US, where the sport is slowly gaining fans but still takes back seat to American Football, baseball and basketball, I haven’t been exposed to it much.

What I love about it? The fact that you don’t need much, except a ball. Anyone can play it. Anywhere, anytime. It’s accessible to everyone, rich or poor. I’d even have to say that the World cup event will be the most watched sports even, even more than the Olympics. This is the sport that ignites passion, loyalty and you can just see it in the fans and players, the love of this game. There’s no doubt.

And yes, I shall be rooting for good ol’ England. And being true to my roots, the African teams. (I’ve lived in the UK and Africa). But yes…it’s all Beckham and UK. Yes…there’s a reason why there was a movie named after him. Okay, so Wayne Rooney’s the best player on the team, but gotta love Becks.

Okay, and to celebrate the win today…went for a British breakfast today at The Olde Ship in Fullerton. Had me some Beans ‘n Toast, and lots of coffee. Ugh…food coma!

I feel bad since I’m blabbing on about sports but I will be knitting to footie, so there. So here’s a lil knitting news: working on the Pomatomus sock using the sock yarn I dyed myself. It’s self-striping yarn and it works. I wish I had saturated the colour a bit more because it’s a lil variegated and so you can see the line definitions aren’t as crisp but not bad so far. It is going alot faster than anticipated.

I’ve also started on a mini-clapotis with my blue handpainted Kona Superwash yarn. The colours are so gorgeous and I’m really pleased with this dye job. I’ll take more photos of it once I’ve knit more of it. The pattern is suprisinly simple. Sometimes when I take an initial look at the patterns, I get so intimidated but once I decide to do it and just slowly follow it, it’s not that bad. Pattern writing looks so crazy sometimes that at times, I just gotta jump into it. And it usually works itself out.

Back to footie…Ivory Coast is down by 2. Darn it!
