Yay for socks!
It’s done. Finally. The Baby Cable Ribbed socks from Charlotte Schurch’s Sensational Knitted Socks. This book is wonderful. I love how the patterns are customizable for all types of sizes, yarns, needles and patterns. If there is one book about sock knitting, this is it. I would really love to get Nancy Bush’s Vintage Socks but next time, next time.
Here are the specks on the socks:
Project: Baby cable ribbed socks
Pattern: Sensational Knitted Socks by Charlotte Schurch
Yarn: Handpainted from Knotty Sheep (eBay seller)
Needles: #2 bamboo DPNs
Date: 7/9/06-8/8/06
Notes: I customized the pattern to fit my size 7 feet and overall the pattern was super easy. I only know how to knit from the top down and on double points. I would really love to learn how to use the Magic Loop one day but I just don’t have the funds to spend on more needles right now.
Yarn: The yarn was purchased on eBay and I liked how they knitted up very quickly and were thick and very squishy. As for the colourway…yikes…it turned out alright at the end but it was TOO BUSY for me and I think it’s shocked me to turning to solid colours. I don’t think I’ll be buying any variegated yarn for a while. Not that I don’t like variegated…but I think that I will knit less with them and try to stick to some solids for my next sock projects.

I’ve been doing a tiny bit of spinning the last week or so. I received my new spindle from Kendig Cottage (also on eBay). It’s a Cascade Pilchuk and it’s a quite beautiful instrument, if you can call it that. The design is clean and simple, and my transition from spinning with a bottom-whorl to a top-whorl wasn’t an issue at all. I’m trying to spin some thick-thin yarn using fiber from Annie Mae (also an eBay seller). This is a lavender superwash merino and it’s a dream to spin. It’s super soft! I’m not sure what I’m going to make with the yarn once it’s all spun up…I brought a crap load of it…about 8oz or more. So I’m not even sure if I should use it all…well I’ll decide later. I’m having too much fun spinning right now. And I definitely recommend the Cascade Pilchuk. I’m also looking at other Cascade spindles…but in the later future perhaps.
Look what I saw at Target! It’s a cable knit bag and I really loved it but thought…hey, I could knit that. Funny when you start thinking that after you’ve been knitting eh? But I like that mentality of the DIYers. It’s just much more satisfying than shelling out $14.99 for this bag, even if it is super cute.

The socks are gorgeous!! I love the texture. I have heard great reviews on Sensational Socks, but don’t have it yet. I can totally recommend all of Nancy Bush’s books though - she is so amazing!
