Sock #4

As soon as I was done the last pair of socks (Baby Cable Ribbed Socks), I cast on using the Carol Green Lorna’s Laces using one of the patterns from Sensational Knitted Socks. This was my first attempt at a Toe-up sock. In the past, I tried to learn using the figure-8 cast on but could not, for the life of me, figure that out. The toe I am using for this sock is the ‘easy toe’ method and indeed it was easy.

This book is wonderful again, I must mention this! It provides details for an easy toe and short row toe cast on. However, I found the short row slightly confusing and decided against it. As you can see, I progressed pretty fast knitting this sock. It just felt like I was progressing faster compared to do the top-down method.

I also attempted to do the short-row heel for this sock. I don’t think I did a great job on it. It was really confusing and I hated doing it. Check out the horrible attempt. I will perfect it…one day. For the meantime, I think I will stick to the heel flap for any future socks.

I am using the Laburnum stitch from Sensational Knitted Socks…loving the texture it’s producing and how easy it is to remember.

Knitting socks has become so addictive! But I had to stop knitting over the weekend because my left arm started hurting quite badly…as I proclaimed to everyone…”I have KNITTING elbow!” Ouch…my arm was slightly numb and tingly, not a great sign at all. So gave knitting a rest for the meantime…I really need to take more breaks in between. Usually I just plow right through. I really DO NOT want to injure myself!

Oh, look what I got in the mail! Lorna’s Laces Sport weight in Pine. Mmm, so yummy and soft! These are gonna be boyfriend’s socks. He’s been waiting for a while!

I’m sorry you have knitter’s elbow. I thought I was the only one getting that! I’m glad to hear it’s normal. I am making my first toe-up sock and wanted to try a traditional short row, but I’m afraid I’ll make a mess of things. I think I’m going to stick with a Sherman Heel, which I’ve done before. Have you tried that? It’s a short row heel that doesn’t leave any holes, but best of all, there is no wrapping and turning or yarn overs. Your sock looks awesome, btw.
