Random Knitting Theory #1

In my daily readings of knitting blogs, I came across a very unusual contest held by Antics with the Menagerie blog (via Aloha & Oreos blog). The contest is called Random Knitting Theory #1, and stated that “successful, continental knitters have a certain kind of hand…” and for bloggers to post two pictures, one of your hands and another of a knitting action shot. So here ya go!

This photo was taken by my brother while we were at the park over the summer. I was knitting Jaywalker socks.

Now, in regards to that theory…I’m really not sure what my type of hands have anything to do whether or not I knit continental or not, mainly because I started knitting English-style and then switched. I’ve always be very active with my hands, even before knitting, I’ve always liked to draw and played piano for years…so perhaps being active with your hands…whether you craft or play an instrument or whatever, may determine the build of your hands.

My hands aren’t exactly skinny and I think they’re quite average. Ring size, my fingers are quite small…I have trouble fitting a size 7 ring (it’s too loose, even on my thumbs) and I’m prolly about a size 4 or 5 for my ring finger. Since I type alot, I prefer to keep my nails short because it is low maintenance. I used to manicure my nails ages ago but I didn’t think there was a point because they’d be ruined in about two days. Nowadays, I like keeping them short and trimmed. Simple. I do think that knitting has definitely helped with my fingers’ dexterity…especially because I do use them alot. So, yes, knitting is my hands’ workout. :)
