Recovering choco-holic.

It’s the simple things that make me happy. Sleeping in, yarn, a friendly smile…and of course, food. I’ve noticed as I’m getting older my taste preferences changing. I’m definitely appreciating food that isn’t JUST sweet and sugary or chocolately. I definitely do not eat that much chocolate as I used to, and if I over indulge, I’m not a happy camper. I’ve had to adjust to “getting older” and finding other things to satisfy my sweet tooth, that isn’t chocolate.

Have you heard of Beard Papa’s?

Beard Papa's Yay!
I discovered the bakery while showing friends around the touristy area of LA, around the  Hollywood/Highland area, and was instantly fascinated. Mainly because they were dessert pastry and it was Japanese. (I have a bit of an obsession with Japanese related crafts, foodies, lifestyle.) If you find a Beard Papa’s in your neighborhood, check it out. I bet you can’t eat just one. It’s light, fluffy and you feel like you’re not consuming any major calories at all, even though you probably are but lets not think of that when there is vanilla custard filling!  I can even eat four in one sitting without feeling sick. Haha.

Eww.  Now that I’ve typed that and re-read it, I feel ill.  (Think vanilla custardy goodness!  Ok much better now).

Yes, I know this is a knitting blog but I haven’t taken photos of my latest FO-my Monkey Socks-because of work/school/sleeping. Work is kicking my ass. I feel like I say that alot but I do have the battle scars to show for it. On Friday, one of the kids decided to throw a mirror at me. It was child-proof mirror so it can be thrown around without breaking. The mirror narrowly missed my head but did causing bleeding as it gouged my thumb.

But I digress. I’m trying to do a lil bit more cooking around the house. It’s hard because of time but I did get around to making this several days ago:  Lemon Custard Cakes. Yum! I got enthusiastic with the powdered sugar but it came out perfect! Not too tangy and not too sweet. I got the recipe via Domesticat’s blog.

Lemony custard experiment.

You do not know how jealous I am that you’re close to a Beard Papa’s. I love custard filled anything, and going to their website was like puff pastry p0rn to me. I’m guessing Ohio is probably not next on their list of expansion locations. :)
