Eye candy Friday, bug bites and not a lousy shirt in sight.

I really don’t do the memorabillia buying when I go on trips. Somehow, I feel like I’m getting ripped off and just can’t bring myself to buy anything. I did come back from my quickie trip with insect bites all over. I’d take photos but it’s too gross. I even think I managed to be allergic to the bite because my elbow got swollen and now I have a rash because I can’t stop scratching. I’m not used to bug bites at all. (Icing it now.)

Anyway, to the good stuff. I flew to the East Coast for a friend’s birthday and a mini-reunion of sorts with friends I grew up with in Zambia. I decided to fly into Boston to visit my friend, Ro, who would also be accompanying me to Albany, NY.

I learned many things about Boston. As much as I can for only being there for one day. First stop, Harpoon Brewery for beer tasting.

I recommend their Hefeweizen beer. What a great summertime beer!

Boston is a fantastic walking city. It felt we walked everywhere. It’s so different from what I’m used to. But what was up with all that jaywalking? (Of course, my mind immediately went to Jaywalking socks but that’s another story). Jaywalking was great! No waiting for lights to tell me to go.

Boston has lovely architecture. I took lots of random building shots just because. I’m in love with that red brick.

I’m a foodie. I like to eat. Boston had a lot of different offerings. Too many restaurants, too little time. I had Thai/Japanese and Indian food that day. However the visit to Modern Pastry was the highlight. I ate my first cannoli and drooled over these goodies.

I wish I could have spent more time in Boston. I got to visit a craft store that had knitting/crochet supplies as well as jewelry-making and paper crafts but no photos. Only spent 15 minutes there and bought a pretty hand-made wood necklace.

Next day.

Up early and caught the bus to Albany. Slept more. There’s not much to say about Albany except it was vastly different from Boston.

Then it was friends and more friends. These people are my other family. We have strong ties despite all the changes in time and the different places we live. It was great to see them all. I left Zambia when I was 16…and so to see everyone all ‘grown’ up was strangely odd but soooo awesome. My friend Pia turned 30 this year too. Her hubby and sister made arrangements for friends and family to fly in from all over the country to celebrate. How awesome is that?

I get to see most of them again in July at a friend’s wedding. Yay.

Time flies, it’s already Friday and I’m happy because I think I get to knit tonight. I can’t believe I haven’t knit a stitch all week but the end of school is near and things are crazy at work. Looking forward to the summertime, when I can focus more on stitching.

Happy weekend!
