Weekend Recap
Boy it was a busy weekend! I did the best to document it with photos, and I’m realizing how difficult it is to keep the camera on hand all the time. (Beware: Photo heavy post!)
Weekend started with going to the AlpacaFest West right around my parent’s neck of the woods in the City of Industry.
There were lots and lots of Alpacas, of course. Most of them had fans to keep them cool in our 90 degree weather.
There were lots of fleece. Bags of it. There were also other Alpaca derived items but clearly, I was more interested in the fleece and roving. There wasn’t nearly enough in my opinion though.
And of course, I was very excited to see spinning wheel at the event, although there really wasn’t a highlight.
I spent about an hour looking around and then decided to head over to my parents because it had gotten too hot. I was going to meet up with my mom to go watch my brother’s marching band competition later that night. On the way to my parent’s house, I saw this:
I guess at this time, around 1pm, the fire was fairly young still. This view is of the fires in the Yorba Linda/Corona fire. The air grew progressively worse as the day went on. It also proved to be a nightmare when we drove down to Mission Viejo for the competition. I drove for 2 hours!!! We arrived just in time to see my brother’s band, from Nogales High School. They’ll also be going to march at the Macy’s Day parade in New York this Thanksgiving. How cool is that?!
Sorry for the crap photo but my bro is there somewhere playing the sax.
I also knit this hat during the evening. It’ll be the hat keeping my brother’s noggin warm while he’s in New York City.
It’s already finished and gifted to my bro. It’s such a quick hat that I even knit the same hat out of this handspun from Fat Cat Knits. But more on that for a different post.
It was a long night. My brother’s band placed second and I was glad to get out of the sooty air.
Sunday it was Felt Club Holiday 2008!
The line was wrapped around the Shrine Auditorium and it took about 30 minutes to get in. $5 donation to enter the event and then $7 for parking. Only in LA. I had a lot of fun though despite it being really really crowded.
There were lots of indie crafters and artists like My Paper Crane, Traveling Rhinos, Mr. Toast, and Girl on The Rocks. My goal was to hit up the fiber artist vendors mainly. I love the other indie artists but just didn’t budget for that in my fiber obsessed haze.
Other than fiber, I picked up a 2 inch hand loom which I have yet to play with. I opted only to go fiber related booths mainly because it was pretty crowded. I usually find that it’s much more tiring for me when I’m in larger crowds. I’m sorry I missed all the other lovely booths which I just scanned or eyeballed from a distance. Felt Club next year needs to be in a much larger venue or outdoors, although I’m really happy that it was indoors this year because of all the ash and crappy air.
Hopefully next post: more knitting items and spinning related goodies.
I’m looking forward to this weekend. Sorta. I’ve got a big paper to write but hopefully I’ll also go to the Greater Los Angeles Spinning Guild on Saturday. Happy Hump Day everyone.

Oh wow! You were busy! I was thinking of hitting the alpaca fest myself but changed my mind at the last minute and stayed home most of the weekend instead. Glad to see pictures though!
I can’t believe I missed Felt Club! Whoever says there aren’t any fibery events in L.A. was lying…my calendar is full!
