…Muntu Stitches
The word “muntu” has several meanings. In Swahili it means “soul” or “essence of humankind.” I’ve also read it for “muntu” to mean “person” and the singular of “bantu” which means “people.”
My dad moved my family to Zambia, Africa for work and I ended up living there for 13 years. The people in Zambia speak Bemba, which, like Swahili is another Bantu language. And so fast forward ten years or so later and I’m here in California…and I discover friends who grew up in Zambia, here, in this state! Small world! United by our past, this word “muntu” or “muntus” was what we (my friends who formerly lived in Zambia) called ourselves. To us, this word meant ‘Zambian’ and ‘friend.’ Almost a term of endearment but also more like a very silly inside joke amongst us. Yes, we are very silly.
Muntu is a nod to my past, Africa, my friends and what I hope this blog will embody, a connection to other people.
I started this blog primarily to help me organize and document my knitting (hence the word “stitches”). The topics will primarily include that craft but I hope to also include other activities, such as cooking, and interests and my life in general. Let’s see where this goes.
I have previous, and still do occasionally blog at livejournal. http://bee-jay.livejournal.com/

I picked up the needles on August 2004 and knit my first scarf! Yay! But then nothing happened again until October 2005 when somehow I decided to make christmas presents for family members and knit 8 crappy scarves. From there, the madness grew and the rest is history.
I live in sunny Southern California, am semi-nomadic, a pisces and a bohemian at heart. I miss yoga and traveling, I love sushi, shoes, and ninja plushies. I am brought to you by the color green and the number 7.
